Conesa H

PRE

(Indiano XVIII x Daniella)

7/5/98

Was there any chance Conesa was not going to be exquisite? Her dam, my beloved deceased Daniella, was the prettiest mare I've ever seen. What an honor to have known and loved such a mare! Apparently I was not the only one who thought so as in 1995, Daniella was IALHA Grand National Champion mare and Grand National Champion of Best Movement.

Conesa's sire (bred by Joaquin Conesa in Spain--guess where her name came from!) is the hypnotic Indiano XVIII, also a multi-times champion of movement. It is my understanding that Indiano was the champion in his regional area in Spain of movement and was National Champion in Mexico. In the U.S., in 1997, he was IALHA Reserve Grand National Champion of Best Movement (behind my very own Remate!)

Conesa was Daniella's final offspring and for that reason alone, I would have never parted with her. But honestly, there were some periods where I questioned how two such parents could produce such a thin, gangley offspring. Conesa is a true duckling who seemingly overnight blossomed into an incredibly beautiful mare---a wide chest, great bone and over 16.1 hands high. Her kindness surpasses her beauty--she is one of my most snuggly mares and a human magnet when anyone comes to the farm.

When she was of breeding age, a very patient and studied customer chose her for an in utero purchase and requested she be bred to Hereje. The result was a spectacularly calm and elegant filly, Helada. The next year, I bred her to Ciclon and the result was another kind, gentle and great moving colt, Invicto who makes no sense at all for me to keep (another grey stallion????) but I cannot bring myself to add to my sales list. His destiny remains to be determined, perhaps.

Conesa was bred in spring, 2006 to Remate and this foal is sold in utero. Next year? I would repeat, gladly, the breedings to either Hereje or Ciclon and there is no question that the Remate baby will be superlative. Try Gitano and see about color? That tale remains to unfold! I hope a buyer will come along and make the choice for us.
